Saint Seiya Box 1 - Match of the Galaxy Chapter
DVD Release Date : December, 2001
Contains Episodes 1 - 36
Originally aired in Japan in 1986 - 1989
This is the very beginning of the 'Saint Seiya's TV anime, starts with Seiya's battle opposing Casios in the Sanctuary Arena, following by the 'Match of the Galaxy', the 'Black Soldiers", and the 'Silver Saints' saga. It also covers a little bit of the Sanctuary Chapter towards the end. Not my favorite part of the series, mainly because there're so many extra elements being added, supposedly to make it longer and more appealing, but what a drag, things like the "steel saints", the "ghost saints", and the "ice saint", these extras could easily kill the atmosphere of the original story. One thing I dislike the most is how Shaina-san acts so excessively evil in this part of the TV series that she's nothing like the woman in the manga. But just like every story, the beginning is important. It can't be ignored whatsoever. |
Saint Seiya Box 2 - Sanctuary Chapter
DVD Release Date : December, 2001
Contains Episodes 37 - 73
Originally aired in Japan in 1986 - 1989
The greatest chapter of the whole series!! These battles are the hearts and souls of 'Saint Seiya', despite the fact the storyline also moves somewhat slow. In order to save Saori-san (Goddess Athena) Seiya, Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun must defeat the 12 golden saints within 12 hours, then reach the temple of the Pope. While the Golden Saints, known as the strongest saints of Athena, are claiming these bronze soldiers are unforgiving traitors who are defending an imposter. They are prepared to annihilate whoever trys to enter their temples without any mercy. Good vs. Evil, Good vs. Good. When loyalty becomes a burden and dreams become reality. |

Saint Seiya - Asgard Chapter
DVD Release Date : December, 2001
Contains Episodes 74 - 99
Originally aired in Japan in 1986 - 1989
Peace doesn't last long in the world of 'Saint Seiya'. Before its audiences could ever take their bathroom breaks, expectedly, something wicked is happening in the Northern Pole. The queen of the region who used to be so charmingly gentle and caring, who desired nothing but peace for her people and the world, suddenly summons all her strongest warriors, then declares she is going to take over the earth by defeating Athena.
*The "Asgard" chapter is not included in the manga series. More one-on-one battles. Nothing too special. |

Saint Seiya - Poseidon Chapter
DVD Release Date : December, 2001
Contains Episodes 100 - 114
Originally aired in Japan in 1986 - 1989
The Greek God Poseidon, ruler of Atlantis and all the oceans and seas, has been released from his imprisonment and has bonded with a young man's body. He kidnaps Athena and plans to submerge the whole earth with water and thus become its ruler. Seiya, Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun and Ikki enter Atlantis to defeat Poseidon along with his Sea Warriors in order to save Athena and the world. They have to destroy the 7 pillars that sustent the 7 seas before it is too late. Also a very good chapter of 'Saint Seiya'. |

Saint Seiya - Movie Series Collection (4 movies)
Legend of the Golden Apple (Gekijoban)
The Heated Battle of the Gods (Kanigami no Atsuki Tatakai)
Legend of Crimson Youth (Shinku no Shounen Densetsu)
Warriors of the Final Holy Battle (Saishuu Seisen no Senshi Tachi)
"Legend of Crimson Youth" is a feature length film, also the only one relates to the continuity of the series (happens after Hades). The other three are somewhat shorter and may be watched in any order or at any time. These movies are nice but lack of creativity, things seem to get repetitive very often. For example, every time when Shun gets into trouble, Ikki suddenly jumps out from nowhere, and yells "Shun!! Are you alright!!". I mean, where is the "Shun! Be a man!" speech that cool Ikki used to give.

Saint Seiya - The Hades Chapter ~ Sanctuary
DVD Release Date: 2003 | |
Episodes 1 - 13 | |
To Be Continued... | |
After more than 10 years, the "Hades" chapter was released! For the first time, 'Saint Seiya' anime used CG effects, interesting visuals were created, but the classic feel of hand-drawn anime was somewhat ruined. One thing that's really great is the storyline stays closely to the manga. Also, a major part of the anime itself looks very impressive and memorable. A good addition to the series. "Sanctuary" ends right before Seiya and the others reach the underworld. Anxious to see what is the next part going to be like. |

Saint Seiya - Tenkai-hen Josho ~ Overture ~
DVD Release Date: September 24, 2004
Theatrical Release in Japan: 2004
To Be Continued... | |
The most recent 'Saint Seiya' anime release, has a nice cliff-hanger ending. The sceneries are beautiful, yet the storyline is still lacking creativity in my opinion. "These humans are trying to surpass the gods. God cannot allow it... They must be punished." |

Seiya and the rest of the Bronze and Gold Saints who have survived the Sanctuary battle have entered the world of the Dead. They are fighting to get to Hades and defeat him.
